Valve’s attempt to get the European Court of Justice to overturn its ruling that geo-blocking Steam game activation keys was unsuccessful. The court reaffirmed its 2021 judgement that Valve and five other PC videogames publishers had “participated in a group of anti-competitive agreements or concerted practices which were intended to restrict cross-border sales of certain PC video games.” This means that the companies involved are likely to have to pay hefty fines, with Valve facing a €1.6 million penalty.
