The Witcher Remake Details

CD Projekt Red, a reputable Polish game development studio, has multiple projects in the works, one of which is a remake of the original 2007 game, The Witcher. Along with this remake, the studio is also busy with other titles such as The Witcher 4, a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, a new Witcher game codenamed Project Sirius, and a new IP codenamed Project Hadar. The Witcher remake was announced in October 2022, but no specific release date has been provided yet. Preorders for the game are not yet available, but it is expected that the game will be offered through CD Projekt’s GOG store as well as other platforms. While there are no official trailers released for the remake, it has been confirmed that the game is being built using Epic’s Unreal Engine 5, indicating that it will likely be available on PC and potentially console platforms. The game is set in a medieval fantasy world and follows the story of Geralt of Rivia, a monster-hunter, as he navigates through a perilous world filled with both human and fantastical enemies. The remake is described as a “rebuilt from the ground up” version of the original game, aiming to provide a fresh experience for the next generation of gamers. Development of the remake has been handed over to a studio called Fool’s Theory, with full creative supervision provided by CD Projekt Red. The decision to go with Fool’s Theory was based on their familiarity with the source material and their understanding of the fans’ anticipation for the remake. The team working on the remake includes individuals who previously worked on the original Witcher game at CD Projekt. One of the significant changes in the remake is the transition to a fully open-world format. Unlike the original game and its sequel, which featured more linear gameplay, the remake will offer a larger and more open environment for players to explore. According to Jakub Rokosz, the head of Fool’s Theory, outdated or “simply bad” elements of the original game will be removed, while preserving and enhancing the great aspects and key pillars of the game. This may include updating the combat and traversal systems while potentially omitting certain elements like Geralt’s “Romance Cards.” In addition to The Witcher remake, CD Projekt Red is also working on other highly anticipated projects, including The Witcher 4 and a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. These developments illustrate the studio’s commitment to expanding their successful franchises and exploring new intellectual properties. With the use of Epic’s Unreal Engine 5 for The Witcher remake, players can expect a visually stunning and immersive experience as they revisit the world of Geralt of Rivia. The announcement of these projects has generated significant excitement among fans and the gaming community, and many are eagerly anticipating further updates on the progress of these games.
