Sony has recently begun testing cloud streaming for PS5 games, with the end goal being to make this an added benefit to subscribers of the Premium tier of PlayStation Plus. This move comes at an interesting time as Sony has previously dabbled in cloud gaming through PlayStation Now, and has recently announced the new handheld device “Project Q” capable of playing games installed on and streamed over a Wi-Fi connection. However, Sony chief executive Kenichiro Yoshida warned that cloud gaming is still technically “very tricky”. Microsoft’s attempt to acquire Activision Blizzard was blocked due to concerns about potential exclusivity of popular titles, such as Call of Duty, to Xbox Cloud Gaming. It will be exciting to see how Sony’s cloud gaming venture turns out, as it could potentially change the way people play games, however, the possibility of game exclusivity may be a cause for concern.
