Microsoft has recently submitted a new deal to the U.K.’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) that proposes Ubisoft get the rights to stream Activision Blizzard games for 15 years. The CMA has confirmed this new deal was proposed, but it has yet to be approved. This settlement would allow Ubisoft to offer Activision Blizzard’s games on cloud gaming services on non-Windows machines and will enable them to innovate and encourage different business models in the licensing and pricing of these games on streaming services. Microsoft believes this restructured transaction will address the CMA’s concerns and they are hoping to get approval before their acquisition agreement with Activision Blizzard expires. As a gaming enthusiast, I’m excited to see what this new deal could mean for the industry. It opens up the possibility of more competition in the streaming space and offers greater access to Activision Blizzard’s games for players all over the world. This could also be an opportunity for Ubisoft to establish itself as a leader in cloud gaming and encourage innovation and creativity in the market. Hopefully, this new proposal is approved soon so that we can start to reap the benefits of this arrangement.
