Firaxis, the developer of Civilization 7, has announced a major update, version 1.1.1, to address some of the game’s issues. The update includes various additions and refinements to the game’s mechanics and features. Some of the key changes include the addition of a Quick Move Functionality, a new Natural Wonder Mount Everest, additional UI updates and polish, and the ability to rename settlements and commanders. One of the most significant changes is the introduction of a new start position option related to map generation. This new setting aims to provide more varied and less predictable continents for single-player games, similar to Civilization 6, while maintaining a balanced playing field for multiplayer games. The update also brings improvements to the user interface, such as keeping the city and town panel open when making purchases, new notifications for city attacks, indicators for crises, and enhanced resource tooltips. Additionally, there are significant pacing changes, particularly in the Modern Age, to allow players more time to experience the unique gameplay during that period. Furthermore, the update introduces a new civilization, Bulgaria, along with Nepal and new leader Simón Bolívar, as part of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection. This expansion also includes changes to modern age pacing and balance, adjustments to tech and civic costs, and updates to various civilizations and leaders. In addition to the gameplay changes, the update addresses several reported issues, including those related to economy, diplomacy, military, natural wonders, and independent powers. It also includes numerous text changes, alignment and spacing improvements, and controller-specific enhancements. Firaxis has also revealed its plans for Update 1.2.0, which is scheduled to be deployed in April. The upcoming update is expected to include additional UI refinements and the addition of a “One More Turn” option to continue playing after achieving a game-winning Victory. Despite these efforts to improve the game, Civilization 7 has faced mixed reviews from players and critics. The game currently has a ‘mixed’ user review rating on Steam. However, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick remains optimistic about the game’s future, believing that the “legacy Civ audience” will come around as they spend more time with the game. Overall, the update aims to address some of the key issues and criticisms surrounding Civilization 7, providing players with a more polished and enjoyable gaming experience. With ongoing support and planned future updates, Firaxis is working to win over both existing fans and new players who are eager to conquer the world in this iconic strategy game.
